Asperger’s, Autism, and The Square Root of 2: A Neurodiversity Documentary tells the story of how the of making The Square Root of 2 led to writer/producer Hackie Reitman writing his Amazon best-selling book “Aspertools.”
Additionally, Dr. Reitman and a host of experts – including education visionary Dr. Abraham Fischler, celebrated psychologist Dr. Lori Butts, and “The Autism Doctor” Dr. Brian Udell – use clips from the film to explain many of the common traits of the growing neurodiverse population, explore the challenges they face, and offer helpful tools for everyone.
After filming wrapped on The Square Root of 2, writer/producer’s Hackie Reitman’s daughter, the basis for the main character in the film, was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. Despite being a celebrated orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Reitman was at a loss for what this condition was. Over the next years the doctor did all the research he could to help him better understand not only how his daughter’s brain worked– but how all of our brains work. The culmination of those years of learning is the Amazon best-selling book “Aspertools: The Practical Guide for Understanding and Embracing Asperger’s, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Neurodiversity.”
